Paul Bennett

Paul Bennett, Co-Founder of Bennett Brothers Yachts, has been an avid sailor all his life. He began with dinghy racing on Keuka Lake in New York and has not stopped since! Paul first came into the boating industry as a yacht broker in Mamaroneck, New York where he quickly excelled in one of the oldest brokerage houses on the east coast. He then went on to become President of Stevens Yachts, a worldwide charter company and semi-custom builder of the reknown Sparkman & Stephens designed Stevens 47. After selling the charter company, he maintained the custom boatbuilding operations and moved the production of the boats from Taiwan to North Carolina. Bennett Brothers Yachts was established in 1986 with his brother in Stamford, CT, before moving to Wilmington, North Carolina. Bennett Brothers Yachts is now celebrating their 20th anniversary.

Paul has been active on the Board of Directors of the Yacht Brokers Association of America - YBAA - for almost a decade. Celebrating its 85th year, YBAA is the oldest and largest association of yacht brokers in America. Paul will be president of YBAA for the year 2003. He is also one of the founding members of the International Yacht Council – IYC. This organization’s purpose is to be the unified voice of independent professional brokers associations worldwide. Its mission is to enhance industry professionalism, ethics and cooperation through the establishment and maintenance of common standard business practices, communication and education. Paul is also a licensed Florida Yacht Broker.

When Paul is not working, he can usually be found on the water or soccer field with his four children and wife, Patricia.

In a literal sea of boats and boatbuilders, what distinguishes Bennett Brothers Yachts?

Bennett Brothers Yachts was founded 20 years ago in Mamaroneck, New York by Paul Bennett. Previously Paul had been President of Stevens Yachts, a charter company with numerous bases all over the world and a boatbuilding operation in Taiwan. Although started with a brother, hence "Bennett Brothers," the company is now run with his wife, Patricia .

Bennett Brothers has built its enviable reputation on providing exceptional service to all of our customers. As custom boatbuilders, we have produced true works of art ranging from catamarans to a luxurious 58 foot sportfishing vessel. The same skilled craftsman that work on our custom builds attend to the many boats that come to the yard for service work. At any one time, the projecs in our yard might include a ferry from the Bald Head Island Ferry fleet, restoration of a wooden boat, fitting a keel on a raceboat, or even laying teak decks on a sportfishing boat.

Although our facilities are outstanding, featuring an extra wide 70-ton Marine Travel Lift on a ten acre fully equipped boatyard, we are most proud of our staff. Our Service Manager, Andy Cascardi, served as a commissioned officer in the United States Coast Guard for over 20 years. He has spent more miles on the sea in all types of boats than almost anyone we know! Our General Manager, Brian Donnelly, has a degree in Yacht Manufacturing Techology and Marine Industries Management from the Southampton Institute of Higher Education. He brings a wealth of knowledge about boats and all types of yacht construction from traditional to state-of-the-art methods.

Andy Jameson, our paint and glass supervisor, went through the same rigorous training that Brian Donnelly did in England. He ran his own business custom building catamarans before joining our staff seven years ago.

The combined expertise, leadership skills and dedication of Andy Cascardi, Brian Donnnelly and Andy Jameson is outstanding.

Our brokerage department specializes in finding and outfitting sail and power boats for serious cruisers. With the availability of information now accessible to anyone with a computer, it is more critical than ever to have an experienced broker who can sort through all the listings and identify those worth pursuing. Our brokers attend boat shows which help them keep abreast of the most up to date boats on the market. They can also get an idea of the true value of these boats in today’s dynamic economy. All our brokers are active members of the national organizations - the Yacht Brokers Association of America(YBAA) and the Florida Yacht Brokers Association (FYBA). Paul Bennett has served on the Board of Directors for YBAA for nearly a decade, including most recently, as president. Paul is currently the president of the International Yacht Council IYC. Terry Rose is just beginning his term as President of YBAA. It is quite impressive to have such representation for the entire yachting community right here at Bennett Brothers Yachts!
